The 2010 Clinton Township Gratiot Cruise was a huge success on Sunday, August 1, 2010. With well over 120,000 folks congregating to Gratiot Avenue from early morning hours to dusk. "The event was great from the record number of kids in pedal cars to the record number of classics, everyone seemed to enjoy this year's cruise," said Tracey Moro, cruise communications director. "We lucked out with great weather all week for our car shows and a sunny, warm day for the cruise. Our sponsors had great turnouts at their events and Gratiot Avenue was buzzing all day long. There was plenty to see and do."
According to the Clinton Township Police Department there was lots more traffic this year and many more people walking. No big incidents occurred outside of one fire and one small fender bender.
Cruise Headquarters had a record turnout for the car show almost running out of parking spots. Each participant received a plaque, free lunch ticket, goodie bag and prime parking spot for the day. Many vehicles drove in the parade and were featured on Fox 2 News Morning Show. Parks and Recreation had inflatables, tattos, safety town, box car racing, craft tent, sand area, music tent and their stage with live entertainment from the Jake Bishop Band and the School of Rock.
Cruise Passports were a success with 31 passports turned in for prizes. There were many gifts given including a TV from Sargents Appliance, a diamond pendant from Cash Exchange, rooms from Concorde Inn and Hampton Inn, and gift certificates from Randazzo Fresh Market, Stahls Meats, Great Baraboo, Fountainview Lanes, Chaplins, and Krogers. Each participant received a dash plaque that resembles the Gratiot Avenue street sign.
Next year's cruise is scheduled for the first Sunday in August - August 7, 2011. To get involved as a sponsor or a volunteer contact Tracey Moro at 586.212.1673 or email from the web site contact us page.
